The Trustees bring highly respected expertise in financial, utility sector and environmental matters.  The Foundation's director and Associates have extensive experience as investment professionals with major financial institutions.

Dr John Roberts CBE - Chairman, Board of Trustees

Dr John Roberts CBE Chairman, Board of Trustees

John Roberts joined the Foundation as a Trustee in 2009 and took on the role of Chair in 2013.

John is Non-Executive Chairman of Royal Bank of Canada (Europe) Limited and Chairman of the Halite Energy Group Limited, Electricity Northwest and First Utility Limited. From 1999 to 2006 he was Chief Executive of United Utilities plc, having previously been Chief Executive of Manweb plc and then Hyder Utilities.

From 1998 to 2002 John was a member of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Liverpool and is also a Certified Accountant. John was awarded the CBE in 2005.

 

 

Bernard Lambilliotte  - Trustee

Bernard Lambilliotte Trustee

Bernard Lambilliotte founded the Foundation on behalf of Ecofin Limited and is a member of the Foundation's Board of Trustees.

Bernard is senior Managing Director and co-founder of Ecofin Limited. At Ecofin Limited he serves as the firm's chief investment officer and has overall responsibility for Ecofin Limited's research and investment management activities, as well as day to day supervision of the firm's activities.

Prior to co-founding Ecofin Limited in 1992, Bernard was an investment manager with Pictet & Cie in Geneva and London where he was responsible for the development of sector funds. From 1985 to 1990, he was an investment banker with Swiss Bank Corporation in London and Paris. Prior to 1985, he was with Drexel Burnham Lambert in London and Hamon et Cie S.A., an international power engineering firm based in Brussels. He holds a degree in Engineering from the Université Libre de Bruxelles and an MBA from INSEAD, Fontainebleau.

John Murray has been a Trustee of the Foundation since its establishment in early 2008.

John is Chairman and co-founder of Ecofin Limited. At Ecofin Limited, he has overall responsibility for execution as well as for legal matters, compliance and corporate governance. He is a Non-executive Director of each of Ecofin Limited’s funds and of BlackRock New Energy Investment Trust plc.

Prior to co-founding Ecofin Limited in 1992, he was head of the corporate finance department of Swiss Bank Corporation Investment Banking Limited in London and a member of the Management Committee of SBC’s London-based investment banking business. Before joining SBC in 1987, he was an investment banker with Morgan Stanley Group, Inc. and held corporate finance positions in the firm’s New York, London, Sydney and Melbourne offices from 1975 to 1986. He holds an honours degree in Economics from Williams College in the United States and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Anthony White - Trustee

Anthony White (MBE) joined the Foundation as a Trustee in 2013.

Anthony has over thirty three years experience in international power markets and the low carbon economy.  He is a Non-Executive of the Green Deal Finance Company, founded Climate Change Capital, was lead analyst at James Capel, Head of Strategy at National Grid Group and Head of the Utility teams at Kleinwort Benson and Citigroup.

Anthony has participated in numerous UK Government advisory bodies including the Energy Advisory Panel, the Commission on Environmental Markets and Economic Reform, the Energy Networks Strategy Group and the Nuclear Liability Financing Assurance Board. He is a non-executive Director of the Crown Estate, Green Energy Options and 2OC Limited. Anthony holds a degree and a D.Phil in Physics from Oxford University.

Dr Angela Whelan - Chief Executive Officer

Angela Whelan was seconded from Ecofin Limited in 2008 to establish the Foundation and take the role of Chief Executive Officer.

Prior to setting up the Foundation she was a portfolio manager at Ecofin Limited specialising in utility funds from 2003 to 2008. From 1989 to 2003 Angela was a financial analyst specialising in the utility sector with several investment banks including Barclays de Zoette Wedd, Credit Lyonnais Securities Europe and Cazenove. At Credit Lyonnais she was head of UK equity research and a member of the Executive Management Committee. She holds a BSc in Economics from Carleton University, Canada and an MA and DPhil in Economics from the University of Sussex. 

Bruce Bromley - Associate

Bruce Bromley Associate

Bruce is an experienced financial markets and asset management professional with a passion for driving sustainable development. He is a Principal of Orbis Analytics, an asset management and advisory business specialising in global sustainability trends. Before founding Orbis Analytics, Bruce spent five years managing investment funds in the energy, utilities and environmental fields at asset management firms Ecofin Limited and Polar Capital. Prior to this Bruce spent nearly a decade working as an equity analyst in the energy, utilities and environmental sectors in the investment banking industry in the City of London for Credit Lyonnais and HSBC. Bruce began his career at international management consulting firm LEK Consulting

Dr Steven Fawkes - Associate

Dr Steven Fawkes Associate

Steven is an expert in energy management, efficiency and financing with over twenty five years experience. He has co-founded energy services businesses, implemented energy-management programmes and advised governments on energy policy. As partner at Matrix Corporate Capital, Steven advised new energy and clean tech firms on strategy, fund raising and M&A, having previously led the Thomson Extel number 1 rated research team in the sector. At RWE and Enron he implemented innovative energy supply and efficiency contracts. Steven worked on EU, UNDP, USAID and World Bank funded energy efficiency programmes in Romania.  He is active in energy efficiency policy development and advised the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change.  Steven holds a PhD based on UK energy efficiency, and has published over 150 works including 2 books on energy efficiency. Steven speaks  on energy efficiency issues globally and received the 2012 Energy Institute’s Individual Achievement Award.

Dr David Lloyd Owen - Associate

David is founder and managing director of Envisager Limited that advises companies, financiers and governments about environmental, market, competitive and political drivers that affect the business of water and waste management worldwide. Prior to this David was an equity analyst at Savory Milln, Banque Paribas, Ecofin Limited and Delphi International. David has worked for corporate clients, institutional investors, multilateral agencies and government bodies and is on the advisory board of Luxembourg Pictet Funds (LUX)-Water, London Bridge Capital and is non-executive director of EnviroGene Limited. David has published five books on the water sector and has written the Pinsent Masons Water Yearbook since 1999. David also writes a monthly column for Global Water Intelligence. David holds a BSc in Environmental Biology from Liverpool University and a Doctorate in Applied Ecology from Oxford University.

Dr Chris Rowland - Associate

Dr Chris Rowland Associate

Chris  Rowland spent 25 years as a financial analyst advising and investing in utilities in several leading city firms.  He led advisory teams that were consistently ranked as giving the best advice on European and UK utility equities. Chris has pioneered the application of carbon markets analysis and led the understanding of the financial and strategic impacts of these markets on utilities.  Since 2006, he has been on the investment team of Ecofin Limited, active in both listed equities and unlisted equities. Chris holds a BSc from the University of Bath, an MSc in Economics from the University of London and a DPhil in Economics from the University of Surrey.

Lisa Anderson - Company Secretary

Lisa Anderson Company Secretary

Lisa Anderson is the Foundation’s Company Secretary and is responsible for the Foundation’s legal matters, in addition to working closely with Dr Angela Whelan as and when required on all other matters. Lisa has been intimately involved in the Foundation since its establishment, and attends all of the Trustee Board Meetings.

Lisa is a Solicitor, in addition to being a non-practising Barrister. She is also currently General Counsel at Ecofin Limited and prior to this was a Partner of the City Law Firm Jones Day. Lisa holds a Masters of Laws from the London School of Economics, specialising in Tax and International Finance.

Rich Morris - Company Secretary

Rich Morris Company Secretary

Rich Morris has been the Foundation’s Company Secretary since January 2010. 

He is a US licensed attorney and the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Bluefield Partners LLP.  Prior to joining Bluefield, Rich was the General Counsel at Ecofin Limited and worked with Clifford Chance as a Conflicts Analyst.  Rich previously specialised in corporate restructuring and commercial bankruptcy and insolvency in the US. Rich holds a B.S. in Zoology from Texas A&M University and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas, Austin in 2003.
